OLIVET, Mich. – This past weekend, the Alma College men's wrestling team traveled south down US-127 to Olivet to compete in the Comet Duels. Alma competed against John Carroll University, Saint Clair Community College, and the University of Mount Union but fell short each duel.
In the first duel of the day, Alma faced off against John Carroll and was defeated by a final score of 43-12. Tyler Demory, wrestling in the 125 division collected a win by fall over Luigi Marino to put the Scots up early. In the 149 division, Cael Dempsey added another Scots win and his first collegiate win by fall over Frank DiMarco tightening up the match. Alma would ultimately be stopped there and would look to rebound in the next duel.
In round three, Alma faced off against Saint Clair CC but was dropped by a final score of 40-17. Alma collected a win by forfeit to put them on the board. Calvin Huggler added another with a win by fall over Ashton Light in the 165 division. Following right behind was William Vernier who won by technical fall over Andrew Howison. Saint Clair would take the final matches and send Alma to the final match of the day.
In the Scots last match, Alma battled against Mount Union and was stopped short in the match by a final score of 42-12. Huggler added his second win of the day when he was able to defeat Caleb Zimmerman by fall. The Scots would add another win by forfeit, leading to the the end of the competition for Alma.
The Scots will take a extended break to spend time with family over Thanksgiving and and then it is back to work as the Scots wrestling program will be back in action on Saturday, December 3rd. Alma will travel to Ohio to take part in the Ohio Northern Invitational, which is slated to start at 9:00 a.m.
