MEN
GRAND RAPIDS, MI - The Alma College men's tennis team concluded their Fall 2022 season with a loss on the road against the Davenport University Panthers. The Scots were down to the Panthers 0-5 before match ending rain hit.
Despite the tough team loss, the 3 doubles team of freshmen,
Jake Lasceski and
Ashton Trnka pulled off a stellar 7-5 win over the Panthers to remain undefeated in their fall season run. Head coach Jared Guy said, "Seeing such a young pair achieve these results against tough competition gives me a lot of hope for their next three years together. I'm excited to see what they do."
Freshman
Ashton Trnka was in another battle before the rain began and ultimately ended the match. Trnka had lost the first set 6-7 (5-7 in the tiebreak) and was tied 3-3 in the second. Junior
Walker Michaels was also still on the court trying to pull off a comeback win but was stopped at 2-6, 5-6.
Having a match ended early due to inclement weather is never what you want to see, but it's even worse when it is the last one of the season. Despite that Coach Guy found some positives. He noted, " We had some good showings against probably the best team we will play all year. We are showing flashes of a team that can take a jump in play if the guys put in the time between the fall and the spring."
The Scots ended their season with a 1-2 record and look to improve when they come back to competition on March 17, 2023 against Kalamazoo College. Go Scots!

It's always nice to finish the fall off with a winning record. Our goal for the spring will be to learn how to close out some more close games and sets. If we can get that down, we will be a tough team to compete with."
