Women's Tennis falls to Bethel in close match

Owensboro, Ky. - The Alma College women's tennis team dropped a close match to the Bethel University Wildcats on Sunday (Feb. 23) 4-3. The Scots got two wins in doubles action and one victory in singles matches. 

In doubles, the team of junior Brooke Butterfield (Portland, Mich. / Portland) and freshman Amanda Szymborski won their match by a final score of 6-3. The other doubles victory for the Scots came from senior Bernadette Garibay (Lansing, Mich. / Grand Ledge) and junior Lucy McCarthy (Rockford, Mich. / Rockford). The duo defeated their Wildcat opponents 6-4.

The Scots only singles victory came from Szymborski. She won the first set 6-2, and then fought hard to win the second 7-6. Butterfield came close to pulling out a singles victory for the Scots as well, as she dropped her first set 6-2. The junior fought back to win the second set 6-3, but dropped the tiebreaking third set 13-11. 

The Scots will be back in action on Monday (Feb. 24) against Brescia University. The match will begin at 10:00 am at the Centre Courts complex in Owensboro, KY.
