Women's Tennis blows past Franklin

Franklin, IN - The Alma College women's tennis team rolled past host Franklin College (IN) on Saturday (Feb. 22). The Scots only dropped one singles match en route to an 8-1 victory. 

In doubles action, the Scots won all three matches. Senior Bernadette Garibay (Lansing, Mich. / Grand Ledge) and sophomore Emily McDonald (Wheeler, Mich. / Bullock Creek High School) won their match 8-4. Junior Brooke Butterfield (Portland, Mich. / Portland) and sophomore Abigail Davenport (Downers Grove, Ill. / Downers Grove South) took the victory in a close match, 8-6. The final doubles winner came from junior Lucy McCarthy (Rockford, Mich. / Rockford) and freshman Amanda Szymborski. The duo rolled past their opponents 8-2. 

Singles winners for the Scots included both Butterfield and McCarthy. Butterfield won her match in straight sets 6-2, 6-4. McCarthy also won her match in straight sets 6-2, 6-0. Szymborski won her match 6-1, 6-2. Garibay also dominated her Grizzly opponent. The senior won in straight sets 6-2, 6-0. McDonald also had a singles victory, winning in one set 8-5.

The Scots will be right back in action on Sunday (Feb. 23). They will travel to Bethel College (TN) for a 10:00 am match time.
