Women's Tennis blanks Olivet

Olivet, Mich. - The Alma College women's tennis team defeated Olivet on Sunday (Sept. 8) 9-0. The Scots were dominant in both singles and doubles competition. Senior Caroline Ross (Sandusky, Mich. / Sandusky) won her match 6-0, 6-0. Junior Lucy McCarthy had the toughest singles match of the day, winning the first set 6-3, before falling 7-6 in set two. In the tiebreaker, McCarthy was able to prevail 10-5. Freshman Amanda Szymborski also dominated her match, winning in straight sets and not losing a single game.

In doubles competition the Scots swept the Comets, winning all three doubles matches. Sophomore Abigail Davenport (Downers Grove, Ill. / Downers Grove South) and junior Brooke Butterfield (Portland, Mich / Portland) defeated their opponents from Olivet 8-6. McCarthy teamed up with Szymborski and the pair won handily 8-2. Ross teamed up with fellow senior Bernadette Garibay (Lansing, Mich. / Grand Ledge) and finished the successful day for the Scots, winning their match 8-1.

The Scots will be back in action next Saturday (Sept. 14) against Concordia University. The match will begin at 11:00 am on the campus of Alma College.
