Women's Tennis Rolls Manchester to Start Season

Marshall, Mich. - The Alma College women's tennis team defeated Manchester University (IN) 8-1 on Saturday (Sept. 7) in its first match of the season.

The Scots had two clean sweeps on the day, one from Caroline Ross (Sandusky, Mich. / Sandusky) and the other from freshman Amanda Szymborski. Both Abigail Davenport (Downers Grove, Ill. / Downers Grove South) and Bernadette Garibay (Lansing, Mich. / Grand Ledge) won their matches 6-1, 6-1. Lucy McCarthy (Rockford, Mich. / Rockford) came out with a 6-3, 6-1 win.

Ross and Garibay teamed up to win their doubles match 8-0, while the teams of McCarthy and Szymborski and Davenport and Brooke Butterfield (Portland, Mich. / Portland) won by scores of 8-1.

The Scots are back in action Sunday (Sept. 7) morning against Olivet. The match is set to begin at 11 a.m.
