Women's Tennis Drops Season Opener at Trine

Angola, Ind. - The Alma College women's tennis team opened its season with a 9-0 defeat at the hands of Trine University on Saturday (Sept. 8).

In the No. 2 doubles match, Brooke Butterfield (Portland, Mich. / Portland) and Lucy McCarthy (Rockford, Mich. / Rockford) fell 9-7 to Kyra Braun and Katie Simon. In the No. 3 match, Caroline Ross (Sandusky, Mich. / Sandusky) and Bernadette Garibay (Lansing, Mich. / Grand Ledge) lost to Andrea Jordan and Camille Lozier 8-6.

Abigail Davenport took Theresa Magenheimer to three sets in the No. 3 singles match but dropped it 6-1, 4-6, 6-10. McCarthy also hung tough with Camille Lozier in the first set but ended up losing the match 4-6, 0-6.

Alma is back in action on Sept. 22 at Olivet College.
