Alma, Mich. - The Alma College women's tennis team dropped a 5-4 decision to Olivet College on Friday afternoon (April 20) in the home finale for the Scots at the Superior Street Tennis Courts.
The Scots captured a point at No. 2 doubles when the team of senior Matilda Ennis (Glenside, Mich./Phil-Mont Christian Academy) and sophomore Caroline Ross (Sandusky, Mich./Sandusky) won by a 9-7 margin, but suffered close 8-6 losses in both No. 1 and No. 3 doubles.
In singles competition, Ennis won her match at No. 3 singles in a tiebreaker, while freshman Lucy McCarthy (Rockford, Mich./Rockford) and sophomore Bernadette Garibay (Lansing, Mich./Grand Ledge) also captured wins.
How It Happened
- The Comets opened up a 2-1 lead after the doubles action. Olivet won by 8-6 margins at No. 1 and No. 3 doubles, while in the No. 2 doubles match, Matilda Ennis and Caroline Ross won, 9-7.
- Lucy McCarthy tied the match at 2-2 with a straight-set win at No. 4 singles, then Olivet won three straight bouts to seal the win, capturing points at No. 2 singles, No. 1 singles, and No. 5 singles by straight-set margins.
- Alma finished the match with two straight points. Ennis won her match at No. 3 singles, winning 6-4 in the third set, while Bernadette Garibay won at No. 6 singles in a match tiebreaker.

The Scots close out their season with three straight road matches, beginning on Sunday, April 22, with a 1 p.m. match at Kalamazoo. Alma will play matches at Trine University (IN) on Wednesday, April 25, and Saint Mary's College (IN) on Saturday, April 28, to wrap up the campaign.
