Women's tennis falls to Albion, 6-3

Alma, Mich. - The Alma College women's tennis team suffered a 6-3 defeat at the hands of Albion College on Friday (March 30) as the two schools opened the MIAA portion of their seasons at the Superior Street Tennis Courts.

Albion (3-8 overall, 1-0 MIAA) took two of the three doubles matches, with the Scots winning the No. 1 doubles contest as the team of freshmen Brook Butterfield (Portland, Mich./Portland) and Lucy McCarthy (Rockford, Mich./Rockford) topped Olivia Conover and Madelyn Polich by an 8-5 margin.

In singles play, the Britons won the top four flights to seal the match. Alma (3-8, 0-1 MIAA) grabbed points at No. 5 and No. 6 singles, with sophomore Jessica Penhale (Ishpeming, Mich./Ishpeming) posting a 6-0, 6-1 win, while senior Amy Wood (Grand Rapids, Mich./City) won her match with a 10-7 triumph in a match tiebreaker.

The Scots will host Calvin College on Tuesday, April 3, at 4 p.m.
