Box Score Alma, Mich. - The Alma College men's basketball team suffered a 94-88 defeat at the hands of Trine University on Saturday (Feb. 17) at Art Smith Arena in the season-finale for the Scots.
Senior Arthell Rosquist (Zion, Ill./Warren Township) led the Scots (8-17 overall, 5-9 Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association) with a career-high 18 points as five players reached double-figures. Senior Kevin Scheibert (Sanford, Mich./Sanford-Meridian) pulled down a team-high eight rebounds and scored 13 points in his final game as a Scot.
Trine (12-13 overall, 8-6 MIAA), which will be the fourth seed in the upcoming MIAA Men's Basketball Tournament, was led by Myles Copeland, who netted a game-high 37 points, while Marcus Winters led all players with a game-high 15 rebounds.
The Scots honored the program's five seniors - including Rosquist, Sheibert, Ethan Apsey (Hemlock, Mich./Hemlock), Rob Holmes (Ada, Mich./Rockford) and Ben Feliczak (Manistee, Mich./Manistee Catholic) - prior to the start of the contest.
How It Happened
- Trine led by as many as seven points in the first half, but the Scots whittled away at the advantage, taking a 42-42 lead with 19 seconds left in the half. The Thunder's Langston Johnson hit a three-pointer to end the frame and give Trine a 45-43 lead at the break.
- Trine built a 10-point lead in the second half, only to see Alma come back and take the lead at 84-83 with 3:02 to play. The Thunder regained the advantage for good with 1:35 to play on a layup by Maurice Hunter, then sealed the game at the free-throw line.
Noteables
- Arthell Rosquist's 18 points marked a career-high, as did his three rebounds and four assists. He also played a career-best 28 minutes while starting his first game of the season.
- Ethan Apsey scored a career-high five points, including his first career three-pointer. He played a career-best 16 minutes and started his first career game.
- Ryan Stevens tallied four assists to finish the season with 154 helpers, two shy of the school record.
- Kevin Scheibert reached double-figures for the 11th straight game.
- Doug Bradfield scored a season-high 16 points.
