Men's Basketball Scores Win on Senior Day as Four Reach Double Figures

ALMA, Mich. – Hosting their final home game of the season and honoring their three seniors, the Alma College men's basketball team closed out their 2025-26 season with a game against the Kalamazoo College Hornets on Saturday, February 21st. The Scots lead from wire-to-wire in their final game of the season, breezing past the Hornets to a final score of 97-73.

Alma opened the game with five straight points from Joss Bradley and Josh Elliott before the Hornets recorded their first field goal. After the Hornets added another make, the Scots saw back-to-back threes from Kyler Chovanec and Tyran Griffin to stretch the lead out to six in the first five minutes of action. Alma would draw the lead out to eight before the Hornets stormed back to bring the game within two, just four minutes later. Alma again saw offensive success as the Scots produced a 10-0 run over four minutes to take their first double figure lead of the game. The Hornets would not let Alma add more distance coming down to the final minutes of the first half, as Alma's lead stayed level at about ten points. A quick burst of offense in the final minutes of the half looked like Alma would head into the half with a 14 to 15-point lead but two makes from the visitors held the halftime score at 43-33 in favor of the Scots.

Kalamazoo found early success in the second half to chip away a couple points early on though the Scots found their stride once again and began to lather on the points. Just under five minutes into play for the half, a lob pass from Elliott to Korbin Heitzman for an alley oop dunk set the tone for the remainder of the game.  Just a minute later, after a steal again Heitzman found himself driving down the lane for a high energy dunk to continue to expand the Scots lead. The Scots lead would reach the 20-point benchmark with ten minutes to play in the game, where it would hoover for a couple minutes. A 15-4 run from the energetic home team saw the Scots lead reach its game-high of 28 with five minutes left to play as Alma could feel the joy of sending the seniors off with a win on home court in their final game of the season. The final minutes saw some back-and-forth action, but the Scots lead was too much to overcome for the Hornets as Alma cruised to a 97-73 finish.

Heitzman led the charge for the Scots with 22 points, followed by Elijah Sykes with 11, while Donovan Collins and Griffin each scored ten. Bradley nabbed a game-high seven rebounds as well as a game-high seven assists. Seniors Elliott and Griffin each added four and three assists, respectively. Bradley also collected a game-high five steals in the action as well.

Alma's season will come to a close with a 5-20 record, while going 3-11 in Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association play. The Scots graduate Kyler Chovanec, Tyran Griffin and Josh Elliott, and will look to the summer month to prepare for the next season.
