Women's tennis falls at Olivet, 5-4

Battle Creek, Mich. - The Alma College women's tennis team dropped a close contest with Olivet College on Saturday (April 15) afternoon at the Minges Creek Athletic Club.

Alma (3-11 overall, 0-5 Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association) has now dropped five straight, and lost the match after freshman Jessica Penhale (Ishpeming, Mich./Ishpeming) went down with an injury, forcing her to retire.

The Scots took one of the three doubles matches to open the contest, with senior Chloe Ramsey (Vicksburg, Mich./Vicksburg) and junior Amy Wood (Grand Rapids, Mich./City) teaming up to post an 8-6 win at No. 3 doubles. After losses at No. 1 and No. 2 singles, Alma appeared ready to take the match, leading in the other four singles matches before Penhale went down.

Junior Matilda Ennis (Glenside, Mich./Phil-Mont Christian Academy) posted a three-set victory at No. 3 singles, Ramsey won in straight sets at No. 4 singles and freshman Bernadette Garibay (Lansing, Mich./Grand Ledge) won at No. 6 singles to close out the match.

Alma will return to the Superior Street Tennis Courts for its final three matches of the season, starting with a home contest against Kalamazoo College on Sunday, April 23. The match is scheduled for a 1:00 p.m. start.
