Women's tennis falls at Manchester

Fort Wayne, Ind. - The Alma College women's tennis team suffered a 5-4 setback to Manchester University on Saturday (Feb. 25) morning to open a three-game road trip.

The Scots (1-3 overall) won two singles matches and a doubles contest by walkovers, while junior Matilda Ennis (Glenside, Mich./Phil-Mont Christian Academy) posted a 10-2 win at No. 3 singles. All of the singles matches were played as 10-game pro sets after the matches was moved indoors and subject to time constraints due to weather in the Fort Wayne area.

Alma had its chances to win the match, as the No. 1 doubles team of senior Claudia Barajas (Holland, Mich./West Ottawa) and freshman Caroline Ross (Sandusky, Mich./Sandusky) had match point before falling in a tiebreaker. At No. 2 doubles, Ennis and freshman Bernadette Garibay (Lansing, Mich./Grand Ledge) had chances to get the win, but eventually fell by a 9-7 margin.

The Scots will travel to Ohio Wesleyan University on Sunday, Feb. 26, for a 10 a.m. match.
