Alma, Mich. - The Alma College women's tennis team suffered a 7-2 defeat at the hands of Saint Mary's on Saturday (April 30) at the Alma College Tennis Courts. The Scots conclude the 2016 season with a 4-12 record, including a 1-7 mark in the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association.
Alma's victories came at No. 1 singles, where senior Megan Solano (Trenton, Mich./Trenton) closed our her collegiate career with a 6-3, 7-6 (8-6) victory over the Belles' Andrew Fetters. Solano finished the year with a 10-6 mark as the Scots' top singles player. The Scots also picked up a point at No. 3 singles, where senior Paige Pontious (Caledonia, Mich./Caledonia) defeated Saint Mary's Sam Setterblad in a super-tiebreaker, 6-2, 6-7 (5-7), 10-7.
The Scots finished the year in eighth place in the MIAA and will graduate three seniors - Solano, Pontious, and Nicki Malekadeli (Midland, Mich./H.H. Dow).
