Women's tennis drops MIAA opener at Calvin

Grand Rapids, Mich. - Playing in its first Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association match of the season, the Alma College women's tennis team suffered a 9-0 defeat to host Calvin College on Saturday (April 2) at the Huizenga Track & Tennis Center.

The Scots lost in straight sets in each of the singles and doubles matchups. Senior Megan Solano (Trenton, Mich./Trenton) came close to forcing a tiebreaker at No. 1 singles, pushing the score to 7-5 in the second set after falling by a 6-3 margin in the opening stanza.

Alma falls to 3-6 overall and 0-1 in the MIAA, while Calvin improved its record to 8-3 and 1-0 in the conference.

The Scots will return home for a pair of matches next weekend. On Friday, April 8, Alma will host Adrian College at 4:00 p.m., while on Sunday, April 10, the Scots will welcome Kalamazoo College for a 1:00 p.m. start.
