Angola, Ind. - The Alma College women's tennis team snapped a four-match losing streak with a 5-4 victory over Trine University on Saturday (April 16) afternoon. With the win, the Scots improved their record to 4-9 overall and picked up their first win in Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association play.
Alma opened the match with wins in two of the three doubles flights. At No. 1 doubles, seniors Megan Solano (Trenton, Mich./Trenton) and Nicki Malekadeli (Midland, Mich./H.H. Dow) posted an 8-5 victory over the Thunder's Madison Hatkevich and Tarah Brennan, while senior Paige Pontious (Caledonia, Mich./Caledonia) and junior Claudia Barajas (Holland, Mich./West Ottawa) defeated Trine's Lexi Mack and Kaitlin Black, 8-3.
Taking a 2-1 advantage into the singles matches, Alma won three individual matchups to secure the victory.
Solano downed Trine's Mack, 6-1, 6-2, at No. 1 singles, while Pontious defeated Tarah Brennan by a 6-0, 6-2 margin at No. 3 singles. Junior Chloe Ramsey (Vicksburg, Mich./Vicksburg) picked up a point at No. 6 singles with her 6-1, 6-0, victory over Sloan Davis.
Alma will be idle until Tuesday, April 26, when it travled to Olivet College for a 1:00 p.m. matchup with the Comets.
