Fort Wayne, Ind. - The Alma College women's tennis team opened its spring break road trip on Friday (Feb. 26) afternoon, defeating Manchester University, 6-2, at the Wildwood Racquet Club to pick up its first win of the year. Alma is now 1-2 overall.
The Scots held a 2-0 advantage after the doubles matches, with the team of seniors Megan Solano (Trenton, Mich./Trenton) and Nicki Malekadeli (Midland, Mich./H.H. Dow) winning at No. 1 doubles, 8-3, while the duo of sophomores Matilda Ennis (Glenside, Mich./Phil-Mont Christian Academy) and Amy Wood (Grand Rapids, Mich./City High Middle School) posted an 8-2 victory at No. 3 doubles.
In the singles matches, Solano picked up a 6-3, 6-1, victory at No. 1 singles, while senior Paige Pontious (Caledonia, Mich./Caledonia) won by a 7-5, 6-2 margin at No. 3 singles. The Scots also picked up points in the No. 5 and 6 singles matches, with Ennis winning, 6-2, 6-0, at No. 5 singles, while junior Chloe Ramsey (Vicksburg, Mich./Vicksburg) posted a 6-0, 6-1 score at the No. 6 spot.
Alma will continue competition in Fort Wayne on Saturday, taking on St. Francis beginning at 2:30 p.m.
