The Alma College Women's Tennis team continued conference play on Tuesday, traveling to Albion College for a match at the Dow Courts. The Scots were dominant against the Britons, earning the impressive 8-1 victory on the road. This was a huge victory for Alma, who lost to Albion 9-0 last year.
With the win, Alma improves to 6-6 on the year with a 2-3 mark in the MIAA. Conversely, Albion falls to 2-4 overall and 0-1 in conference play with the loss.
The tandem of Jr. Megan Solano (Trenton/Trenton) and Sr. Morgan Waier (Grand Blanc/Grand Blanc) kicked off the afternoon with an 8-5 victory at first singles to put the Scots up 1-0.
Following a loss a second position, the duo of So. Claudia Barajas (Holland/West Ottawa) and Fr. Amy Wood (Grand Rapids/City High Middle School) would get the 8-4 win to put Alma up 2-1 heading in to singles play.
At first singles, Solano would earn her 14th win of the season with a hard-fought 7-5,2-6,1-0 victory.
Waier followed with a 6-3,2-6,1-0 win at second singles, before Jr. Nicki Malekadeli (Midland/H.H. Dow) earned the 6-2,4-6, 1-0 victory at third position to put Alma up 3-0 on the road.
Jr. Paige Pontious (Caledonia/Caledonia) was victorious at fourth position 6-1,6-1 and So. Chloe Ramsey (Vicksburg/Vicksburg) won at fifth flight 6-3,6-2.
Fr. Matilda Ennis (Glenside/Phil-Mont Christian Academy) capped off the day with a 6-4,6-1 win at sixth singles to give the Scots the impressive 8-1 win.
Alma hits the courts again on Friday, April 3, traveling to take on Adrian College at 4:00 p.m.
