The Alma College Men's Tennis team traveled to Crawfordsville, IN on Friday to take part in the NCAC-MIAA Tennis Challenge. The Scots concluded day one at 1-1, falling to Wabash College 7-2 in the morning session, then followed up with a 7-2 victory over Ohio Wesleyan University (OH) in the afternoon.
Following Friday's results, Alma now sits at 9-8 on the year.
Match One
The Scots dropped the first two doubles matches to Wabash, and were down 2-0 heading into the final doubles match.
The tandem of Sr. Jared Guy and So. Joshua Gove claimed an impressive 8-3 victory in third position, and Alma was down 2-1 entering singles play.
Fr. Gordon Rumschlag earned the only singles point for Alma in match, winning a hard fought 2-6,7-6,10-8 decision in sixth position.
Match Two
Following a victory for Ohio Wesleyan in first-position doubles, the duo of Sr. Logan Beard and Rumschlag earned the point at position two, 8-2, to knot the match at 1-1.
Guy and Gove would claim their second doubles victory on the day in third position, 8-0, and Alma took the 2-1 lead heading into singles.
Ohio Wesleyan claimed the first singles victory and the score was all tied up at 2-2 entering second position.
Beard came out victorious in position two, earning the three set victory 6-4,1-6,10-2.
Fr. Grant Hill followed with a 7-5,6-3 win at third position to put Alma up 4-2.
In position four, Sr. Bryan Schutte earned a 6-0,6-3 win, and Guy followed with a 6-1,7-5 victory at fifth to extend the Scots lead to 6-2 with one match remaining.
Rumschlag recorded the 7-5,6-0 victory at sixth singles, to seal the 7-2 victory for Alma.
The Scots continue play at the NCAC-MIAA Tennis Challenge tomorrow, when they face Wittenburg University (OH) in a match set for 10:00 a.m.
