The Alma College Women's Tennis team began conference play on Monday when they traveled to Angola, IN to take on Trine University. Despite claiming the first victory of the evening, the Scots struggled at the Keith E. Busse/Steel Dynamics Athletic and Recreation Center, falling to the host Thunder 7-2.
With the loss, Alma drops to 2-7-3 overall and 0-1 in the MIAA. Trine improves to 5-5 on the year with a 1-0 mark in league play.
"We had some tough matches today," said Alma Head Coach Brittany Miller. "We hope to bounce back when we play Olivet on Thursday."
The Scots struck first on Monday when the tandem of So. Megan Solano (Trenton/Trenton) and Jr. Morgan Waier (Grand Blanc/Grand Blanc) collected the 8-3 victory in first doubles.
Alma was unable to claim another win in doubles and headed into the singles portion of the evening down 2-1.
Following four defeats in singles action, So. Paige Pontious (Caledonia/Caledonia) would land a convincing 7-5, 6-2 victory in fifth position.
Alma was unable to claim the final singles match on the road and fell to home team 7-2.
The Scots continue conference play on Thursday, March 27, when they take on Olivet College at the Michigan Athletic Club in Lansing at 3:00 p.m.
