The Alma College Women's Tennis team began its Spring season on Saturday when they welcomed Aquinas College to the Stone Recreation Center. The Scots fell short in their season-opening match, dropping the 9-0 decision to Saints at home.
At first singles, So. Megan Solano (Trenton / Trenton) dropped three sets to Lauren Ramey, 6-1, 7-6 and 7-4. Jr. Morgan Waier (Grand Blanc / Grand Blanc) fell (6-4, 6-4) to Tiffany Tuori and Sr. Lauren Moreau (Lansing / Lansing Catholic) was downed 6-2, 6-1 to Ariana Kabodian in the third position.
At fourth singles, So. Nicki Malekadeli (Midland / H. H. Dow) suffered a 6-2, 6-1 defeat to Marjeanne Bothma. Fr. Chloe Ramsey (Vicksburg / Vicksburg) followed with a loss to Jenelle Miller 6-1,6-0. Fr. Elizabeth Taylor (Fruitport / Fruitport) wrapped up the singles portion of the match by falling Kasey Jacobs 6-4, 6-2.
On the doubles side, the team of Solano and Waier were outlasted by Tuori and Ramey 9-7 in first position. Moreau and Malekadeli dropped an 8-1 decision to the tandem of Gina Kukulski and Rilie DuShane in second doubles and Ramsey and Taylor ended the tournament with a 8-0 defeat to Ariana Kabodian and Marjeanne Bothma.
Alma hits the court again on Sunday, Feb. 16 when it welcomes Lake Superior State University for a match at 10:00 a.m.
