Alma Women's Tennis defeats Saint Mary's on Friday 5-4 to improve to 3-0 in the MIAA

The Alma College took on Saint Mary's College and because of inclement weather, the match was moved indoors to the South Bend (Ind.) Racquet Club. The Scots defeated the Belles, 5-4 to improve to 8-2 on the season and 3-0 in the MIAA, while Saint Mary's is now 1-2 in the league and 7-6 overall.

In a thrilling match that came down to the wire, the Scots got wins at number one doubles with Fr. Erin Clutter (Petoskey, Mich./Petoskey) and Sr. Jen Meloche (Muskegon, Mich./Muskegon West Michigan Christian) and at number two with Sr. Amy Baranowski (Marshall) and Jr. Katie Meloche (Muskegon, Mich./Muskegon West Michigan Christian).

In singles, Clutter got a win at number two and Katie Meloche was victorious at number four for the Scots. With the match tied at 4-4, it all came down to Baranowski's number three match. In dramatic fashion, she defeated the Belles' Shannon Elliott by a score of 2-6, 6-4, 6-4 and Alma came away with the exciting 5-4 victory.

Alma continues MIAA action at Hope College on Saturday afternoon beginning at 1:00 p.m.
