The women's tennis continued its winning ways on Tuesday with an impressive win over Augustana College (IL). The 6-2 win brings the Scots to 3-1 on the season and brings their win streak to three.
The match began with singles play as part of simultaneous men's and women's play against the Vikings. The Scots were able to clinch to go out and clinch the match in the singles competition by winning the bottom five flights.
Winning in straight sets for the Scots were Jr. Katie Meloche (Muskegon, MI/Muskegon West Michigan Christian) and So. Lauren Moreau (Lansing, MI/Lansing Catholic). Meloche was victorious at the #4 spot by a 7-5, 6-3 margin while Moreau brought home a 6-2, 7-5 victory at #6 singles.
Fr. Erin Clutter (Petoskey, MI/Petoskey) proved to be to much for her opponent to handle at #2 with a come from behind 2-6, 6-1, 6-3 win. Sr. Amy Baranowski (Marshall, MI/Marshall) claimed a 6-2, 4-6, 6-4 win at #3 singles.
The longest match of the day came in the form of an epic battle of willpower at the #5 singles flight. Fr. Maleah Benn (Jackson, MI/Jackson Western) clinched the victory for the Scots in a match that took over two hours to complete with the on-court temperature exceeding 90 degrees. Benn successfully battled the heat in her 7-6(3), 3-6, 6-2 victory.
With the match in hand the Scots were able to claim a victory in one of the two doubles matches that were completed. K. Meloche and Baronowski outlasted their opponents' en-route to an 8-3 win at the #2 spot. The third doubles match was left unfinished due to another match scheduled to begin on the courts.
The Scots will look to continue their winning ways in a match-up against Capital University on Wednesday. Play is set to get underway at noon at Lake Cane Tennis Center in Orlando, FL.
