The women's tennis team improved to 2-0 on its Florida Spring Break trip with a 7-2 win over Hanover College (Ind.) on Monday. The Scots battled the Florida sun and heat en-route to their win.
The Scots jumped over the Panthers early on by winning two of the three doubles flights. Victorious at #2 doubles for the Scots was Sr. Amy Baranowski (Marshall, MI/Marshall) and Jr. Katie Meloche (Muskegon, MI/Muskegon West Michigan Christian) winning by an 8-3 score. At #3 the pairing of Jr. Brittney Miller (Muskegon, MI/North Muskegon) and Fr. Maleah Benn (Jackson, MI/Jackson Western) captured an 8-4 victory.
The Scots continued their strong play in singles where they were able to claim five of the six flights to close out the victory. Victorious for the Scots at #2 singles was Fr. Erin Clutter (Petoskey, MI/Petoskey); Clutter overpowered her Panther foe on her way to a 6-2, 6-4 win. At #3 singles Baronowski claimed at 6-3, 6-4 win.
The margin of victory for the Scots only increased in the lower flights. K. Meloche won by a 6-3, 6-0 count at #4 singles while Benn won 6-1, 6-3 at #5. So. Lauren Moreau (Lansing, MI/Lansing Catholic) won without dropping a single game, 6-0, 6-0, at #6 singles.
The win brings the Scots record to 2-1 on the season.
They will be back in action Tuesday afternoon against Augustana College (IL). Play is set to get underway at 2:00pm at Oak Street Park in Kissimmee, FL.
