Box Score

The Alma College Women's Soccer team traveled to Olivet this afternoon to take on the Comets in an MIAA contest, and came away with a 4-0 victory. The Scots improved to 9-2-1 in the league and 13-2-1 overall, while the Comets are now 2-14 in 2011 and 2-10 in the MIAA on the season.

"We started a bit slow today, but the goal late in the first half have us a lift going into halftime," said Alma Head Coach Jeff Hosler. "We played really sharp in the second half as a collective group and really held our composure with things got a bit chippy. Someone that stood out that won't show up in the box score is Becky Marton, who I believe was the best player on the field for 45 minutes of the game and took charge for us."

The lone goal of the first half came late at 42:30, when Fr. F McKenzie Smith (Saginaw, Mich./Saginaw Nouvel) hit the center of the net on a pass from Sr. M/F Carly Reising (Otsego, Mich./Otsego), this past week's MIAA Offensive Player of the Week, for a 1-0 Alma lead heading into halftime.

Just seven minutes into the second half, Jr. M/F Elaine Cunningham (Ada, Mich./Forest Hills Central) knocked a shot into the net from five yards out on an assist from Reising for a 2-0 advantage. Reising then made the score 3-0 when she scored unassisted on a free kick from the top of the arc at 64:52.

The final goal of the contest came three minutes later at 67:55, when Fr. Ashley Oltman (Wheaton, Ill./Wheaton) converted a sweet ball from Fr. M/F Kailey Vlug (Coopersville, Mich./Coopersville) for the final 4-0 margin of victory for the Scots.

Sr. GK Monica Witt (Clio, Mich./Clio) and Fr. GK Morgan Waler (Grand Blanc, Mich./Grand Blanc) each played a half in the shutout, with Witt improving to 11-2-1 on the season. Each of them had one save on the afternoon.

The Scots continue play on Thursday afternoon, when they host Trine University at 4:00 p.m. at Scotland Yard.
