Fort Wayne, IN – Alma College Women's Wrestling was in action over the weekend, taking part in the Indiana Tech Warrior Women's Open. The Scots placed on 10 different occasions across multiple brackets in each weight class.
Ava Pike opened her day at 103 with a loss to Katie Rowles by fall, before being pinned by Alexis Baumgartner of Adrian. Dropping into the hard luck bracket, she was defeated by Jackeline Shackleford of Manchester via tech fall. Bouncing back, she was awarded a win over Mount Union's Kyler Lamb, and scored a win by fall over Baker's Veronica Green. She placed 2
nd in the bracket.
Chloe Colton wrestled at 117, winning her opening bout via decision over Indiana Tech's Elizabeth Dollar. She was then defeated by Adrian's Carleigh Cerneski via fall, before advancing via forfeit. She was then defeated by Alejandra Corral via tech fall.
Shai Curtiss competed at 124, starting action with a defeat via decision at the hands of West Liberty's Mariah Mills. She was then defeated by Tiffin's Annesley Day via fall, before pinning Eastern Oregon's Brooklyn Jones in the 7
th place match. In the hard luck bracket, she defeated Tilly Kakuk of UCLA via tech fall, before pinning Brooklyn Jones of Eastern Oregon to win the bracket.
Competing at 131,
Sarah Callender dropped her opening bout via fall to Sian Rogers of Manchester, before forfeiting her next bout due to injury.
At 138,
Ryen Allen dropped her first match of the day to Naima Ghaffar via tech fall, bouncing back with a three straight tech fall wins over Indiana Tech's Hannah Seitzinger, Siena Heights' Alexus Shaneyfelt, and Easter Oregon's Mckayla Bonham. After losing via decision to Sophia Antonio of Tiffin, she pinned Leighanna Patz from Baker to take 7
th place.
Amelia Howell was also at 138, dropping her opening match to Celeste Nunez of Indiana Tech via fall. She went on to lost via tech fall of Adrian's Jayna McClory. Moving into the Hard Luck bracket, Howell lost her opening bout via fall to Rachel Grigs of the University of Michigan Club team. She was then defeated via tech fall by Lourdes' Adelynn England, before avenging her earlier loss to Grigs by pinning the Wolverine. Her tournament came to a close with a loss to Elaina Rudolph of Adrian by fall, placing her 4
th in the bracket.
At 145,
Madesyn Wheaton lost her opener to Madalaine Menchaca of Indiana Tech via fall, before collecting a win over Maria Nutter of Lourdes by fall. She was then pinned by Kaitlynn Ploppi of Point Park.
Also at 145, Dawn DeGood dropped her first bout to Baker's Lucia Henriquez via fall, before coming back with a pin of Siena Heights' Emily Eakins. She was then defeated via tech fall by Heidelberg's Annabell Hunter. Moving into the hard luck bracket, DeGood was awarded a win by forfeit over Eakins, before losing via fall to Ilani Jones-Wallace of Mount Union. After being awarded another win by forfeit over Georgetown's Brilynn Gemmer, she was defeated by Sarah Abner of Otterbein, placing 3
rd in the bracket.
Camille Mitchell won her opener at 160 over Maggie Milbery of Heidelberg via tech fall. She went on to pin Eden Knight of Women's Wrestling at IU, before suffering a loss via fall to Haley Diaz, and a loss via decision to Manchester's Claire Bennett. In the hard luck bracket, she pinned Indiana Tech's Katelyn Capper, and was awarded an injury default win over Emma Bolyard of Georgetown, placing her 1
st.
Gabriella Allen opened her day at 180 with a loss via decision to Destiny Ware of Providence, followed by a loss via fall to Alazhandra Williams from Hiram. She then wrestled three bouts against Johanna Carrasco of Baker in the hard luck bracket. All three bouts went to decision, with Allen coming out on top in two of the three to win the bracket.
At 207, Skye Picarski made her Scots debut over the weekend. She dropped her first four bouts of the weekend by fall, suffering losses to Leeah Pierre, Napai Holloway of Lourdes, Ellen Ashabranner of Indiana Tech, and Allison Ott of Mount Union. She was awarded a win by injury forfeit of Mackenzie Weatherford of Manchester.
The Scots are back in action on February 1 at the John Carroll Open.
