Women's Wrestling Finishes 11th at QC DIII National Invite

Shai Curtiss and Gabriella Allen each placed in the top eight

Rock Island, IL – Alma College Women's Wrestling was in action over the weekend at the Quad Cities DIII National Invite. Alma placed 11th of the 30 teams, scoring 47.5 team points.
 
At 103, Ava Pike won her opening bout over Augsburg's Chelsea Beaver via decision, before dropping her second match to North Central's Brianne Graves by tech fall. Bouncing back, Pike pinned Lyon's Kaylei Parish, before bowing out with a loss by decision to Kirsten Cortez of Carthage.
 
Mia Sharp opened at 110 with a loss to Sara Schroder of Dubuque via tech fall, before her day came to an end with a loss to Abigail Alvarado of Manchester.
 
At 117, Chloe Colton won her first match over Schreiner's Morgan Pinzon via fall, before dropping a bout to Wartburg's Jasmine Luedtke via tech fall. In the consolation bracket, she defeated Kylie Brigman of Randolph via decision, before being defeated by tech fall by Stevens Point's Hollis Nelson.
 
Shai Curtiss won her first three bouts of the weekend at 124 via fall, taking down Rosemary Triggs (Stevens Point), Abigail Gearin (Albion), and Leah Chandler (Wartburg). In the semifinal, she dropped a bout via tech fall to Morgan Leonhardt of Otterbein, before bouncing back with a decision victory over Amelia Adams of Stevens Point. In the third-place match, Shai lost by decision to Sophie Bowers of Wartburg, ending the weekend in 4th place.
 
At 131, Sarah Callender won her first match over Elmhurst's Bella Curcuru via fall, before being pinned by North Central's Jax Realin. Callender earned another win by pinning Erin Scully of Trine, before losing via fall to Stevens Point's Elsie Trippett by fall.
 
Ryen Allen opened at 128 with a pin of Luther's Lucy Miller, before dropping a match via decision to Noa Arnold of Simpson. She then scored a pair of wins over Viola Pianetto of Elmhurst (tech fall) and Madison Small of Trine (decision). Her day came to a close when she was pinned by Mancehster's Katy Vardaman.
 
At 145, Dawn DeGood lost her first match to Ithaca's Melina Georgas via fall, before pinning Daniela Myers of Maine Maritime. Her day came to a close when she was pinned by Mary Smith, also of Maine Maritime.
 
Gabriella Allen opened at 180 with a pair of decision wins, defeating Caitlyn Flaherty of North Central and Tori Maxey of Cornell. She was then defeated by Anneliese Tavira of Aurora, but came back with a pin of Albion's Brynn Campbell. After being defeated by Juliana Lefort of Elmhurst, she closed the weekend with another win by decision over Flaherty, placing her 7th in the weight class.
 
The Scots will be back in action on February 20 at the NCAA Regionals.
