Alma, MI – Alma College Women's Wrestling was in action on Saturday, hosting the second annual Alma College Women's Open. The Scots secured multiple placers wrestling on their home floor.
At 103,
Ava Pike matched up with Gabriela Hotaj of Rochester University two times. She defeated Hotaj by a 10-0 tech fall in their first bout, and won by fall in 1:24 in bout two to take the 103-pound title.
Mia Sharp wrestled at 110, dropping her first bout to Julia Snyder of Rochester via tech fall. She went on to defeat Aveona Edwards of Siena Heights by fall, placing second overall in the weight class.
At 117,
Chloe Colton lost her first matchup of the day to Sugey Ceja via tech fall. She went on to defeat Arden Esctruth of Siena Heights by tech fall, and Morgan Jenks of The University of Olivet Wrestling Club by fall. In the third-place match, she pinned Leah Pekar of Tiffin University in 2:56 to take the third step on the podium.
Shai Curtiss opened her day at 124 with an 11-4 decision loss to Annesley Day of Tiffin. She rebounded with a tech fall win over Madison Stirrett of Rochester University. Anari Roberts of Tiffin was the next victim of a Curtiss 10-0 tech fall, before the freshman closed her day with another tech fall win, this one 15-4 over Nyveah Wendt of Siena Heights. She placed third on the day.
Sarah Callender was defeated by Davenport University via fall in her opening bout. She then defeated Kendra Pritt by fall in just 33 seconds, before pinning Cadence Wallace of Siena Heights in 4:04. In the third place match, she was defeated by Anika Yakuber of Rochester University via tech fall.
At 138,
Amelia Howell dropped her opening match to Ava Niedzielski of Davenport via tech fall, before bouncing back with a win over Alexis Link of Siena Heights via fall. Her day came to a close with a loss against teammate
Ryen Allen.
Allen defeated Natalie Loomis of The University of Olivet Wrestling Club via 10-0 tech fall to open, before dropping a bout to Sophia Antonio of Tiffin University via a 6-0 decision. Allen then defeated teammate
Amelia Howell, before pinning Athena Colderon of Siena Heights University in the third place bout at 138.
At 145, Dawn DeGood got a bye, before dropping her first bout to Jordan Milanowski via fall. She rebounded with a win over Emily Eakins of Siena Heights via a fall in 40 seconds. She then advanced via forfeit before defeating
Madesyn Wheaton via fall in 2:41. She was defeated in the third place bout by Aleah Swilley of Rochester University.
Wheaton opened with an 11-8 decision win over Emily Eakins, following that with a win over Madelyn Fuqua-Jenkins of The University of Olivet Wrestling Club, a fall in 2:56. She was defeated via fall by Gennaveve Matt of Tiffin University. Her day came to a close against teammate Dawn DeGood, losing via fall in 2:41.
Camille Mitchell dropped her opening bout to Jazmyne Lake of Rochester via fall. She bounced back with a win by fall over Libia Hernandez of Davenport, going on to pin Alivia Endsley of Olivet. In the third place game, Mitchell avenged her only loss on the day, defeating Lake with an 11-0 tech fall.
At 180,
Gabriella Allen won her opening bout after a 1-1 decision saw the tiebreaker go her way against Erin Martin of Tiffin. She lost her next bout against Zamaria Hemingway of GVSU via fall. She was then defeated via fall by Loelei Shrum, before winning the fifth place bout against Isabelle Wisenbaugh via fall.
Alma is back in action January 23 at the Indiana Tech Warrior Women's Open.
