Women's Wrestling Places Eight at BW Women's Open

Allen and Mitchell lead the way with 2nd place finishes

Berea, OH - Alma College Women's Wrestling was on the road on Sunday, taking part in the Baldwin Wallace Women's Open. With no team scores kept, Alma secured multiple placers on the day.
Ava Pike competed at 103, winning her first bout over Heiedelberg's Rylan Riffle by fall, before losing via tech fall to Ella Thomas. After suffering another loss to Aniya Polk, pike pinned Riffle again to place 5th in the weight class.

At 110, Mia Sharp opened her day with a win by fall over Abigail Alvarado of Manchester, going on to defeat Lincoln Memorial's Sirenity Curtis by fall as well. Brenna McCarley of Gannon defeated sharp by fall, with the freshman bouncing back with another win over Alvarado by fall. Sharp placed 4th after dropping the third place match to Audrey Miracle of Heidelberg.

At 117, Chloe Colton won her first two bouts by fall, pinning Manchester's Jillian Donnelly, and unattached wrestler Esmeralda Schroeder. After falling via a 7-4 decision to Gannon's Kennedy Perez, and losing via tech fall to Paola Villaruel of Manchester, Colton placed 5th with a tech fall victory over Isabella McNutt.

Shai Curtiss opened at 124 with a win over Andrea Rodriguez of Manchester, before being defeated by Kayla Moroschan. In the consolation bracket, Curtiss defeated Gannon's Ava Weibley by tech fall, also taking down Shelby Clayton of Georgetown be tech fall, before falling to Emma Cunningham of Pitt-Johnstown. Curtiss placed 5th after defeating Isabel Alvarez of Pitt-Johnstown via a 12-4 decision.

Sarah Callender competed in a single-elimination 131 bracket. She defeated Shelby Luper of Manchester by fall, also taking down Alyssa Roberts of Lincoln Memorial by fall. Her day came to a close in the quarterfinal round with a loss to Chloe Zacheri.

Also competing at 131 was Amelia Howell, who was defeated by Kaylee Smith of Manchester via tech fall in the opening round.

Ryen Allen got off to a hot start at 138, defeating Abigail Silberman via a 7-0 decision, going on to beat Katy Vardaman of Manchester by fall. Allen placed 2nd, being defeated by Sophia Ball of Aurora in the championship bout.

At 160, Camille Mitchell defeated Payton Curley of Lourdes via fall, before defeating Claire Bennett of Manchester via teach fall. Mitchell placed 2nd after being defeated by Gillian Coulson of Baldwin Wallace via fall in the championship bout.

Also at 160, Dawn DeGood won her first match of the day, a win by fall over Heidi Gordon from Edinboro. DeGood was defeated by Gillian Coulson of Baldwin Wallace, rebounding with a win  by fall over Shandrea Morgan of Lincoln Memorial. DeGood won again over Mackenzie Mercer of Lourdes, before falling to Claire Bennett of Manchester. She placed 5th after pinning Kylee Waldron in the 5th place match.

Rounding things out at 180, Gabriella Allen defeated Cheya Bishop by fall in her opening bout, before losing to Anneliese Tavira of Aurora. Allen defeated Kaitlyn Berresford by fall, before ceding the 3rd place match due to injury against Bishop. The sophomore placed 4th.

The Scots are off for a few weeks, and are back in action with a home dual against Trine on December 5.
