East Moline, IL – Alma College Women's Wrestling was in Illinois to take part in the Quad Cities Division III National Invite. The Scots placed 11
th of 23 teams with a score of 45.0 points. Traveling 6 wrestlers, Alma finished ahead of MIAA foes Albion and Trine.
At 101 pounds,
MacKenzie Burger received a bye in the opening round, and then took on Morgan Bethea of UW-Stevens Point, winning by fall at the 2:09 mark. Burger was defeated in the next round, dropping to the consolation bracket. There she was defeated by Karina Torres of Carthage College, before winning the 5
thplace match over Albion's Gabby Motz via forfeit.
Keegan Gonzalez advanced at 123 pounds, winning over Wartburg's Riley Meyer via pin at 1:52. She was then defeated by Sandie Pheil of Augustana. Gonzalez defeated Brianna Derouin of Stevens Point via fall at 1:56, before being defeated by Augustana's Hannah Suboni-Kaufman. The 7
th place match saw Gonzalez defeated by Dakota Drew of North Central, placing 8
th in the weight class.
At 136 pounds, Jackie Dietz won her first round match via an injury forfeit, before falling to Brooke Schueneman via tech fall. All the senior did after that was rip off three straight wins to get back to the 3
rd place match. Dietz took down Madison Small of Trine via a 5-3 decision, before edging out Brooke Wieczorek of Schreiner with a 3-2 decision victory. Kiza Williams of Eureka became the third victim of a loss by decision to Dietz, with Alma's wrestler on the winning end of a 5-1 score. The senior met Schueneman in the 3
rd place match, falling short of the podium with a loss via tech fall, placing 4
th.
The 191 pound entrant for Alma was
Cassidee Easey. Easey was defeated by Melissa Jacobs in the opening round, before pinning Eleanor Jukes of Southern Virginia in 2:35. She fell to Isabelle Huss of Augsburg, before pinning Magalie Mogiga of Buena Vista in 3:25 to place 7
th in the class.
Alma has one more dual opportunity at Northern Michigan before heading to NCWWC Regionals in Erie, PA on February 24.
