Women's Wrestling Qualifies 4 for NCWWC Nationals

Erie, PA – Alma College Women's Wrestling took part in NCWWC Regionals on Saturday. The Scots were in Pennsylvania for the Region III Tournament, hosted by Gannon University. Alma finished 7th of 10 in their inaugural run in the tournament, sending 4 to NCWWC Nationals.
 
MacKenzie Burger competed at 101 pounds for Alma. After a first round bye, Burger faced off with Lexi Doerflinger of Hiram College, defeating her by fall at the 1:27 mark. That moved the freshman on to the championship match, where she was defeated by Albion's Gabby Motz via fall. The second place finish at 101 qualifies Burger for nationals.
 
Chloe Colton competed at 116 pounds for the Scots. She took on Juliana Cubias of the hosts Gannon, losing via fall at 1:33. Wrestling in the consolation bracket, Colton then defeated Sophia Renteria of Adrian College via a 4-1 decision. She then matched up with Cubias again in the third place match, being defeated via fall. Her 4th place finish gives Colton a qualification for nationals.
 
At 123, Keegan Gonzalez was defeated by Jada Fowler of Frostburg State in her first match of the day. Gonzalez then defeated Makaya Crisenbery of Tiffin via fall at 2:31, before being pinned by Gannon's Jayden Bazemore. Keegan was forced to retire from the 5th place match due to injury.
 
Jaclyn Dietz represented Alma at 136. It took the oldest Scot on Alma's roster just 0:30 to pin Adriana Lagoe of D'Youville, before being defeated by Mallory Chunat of Hiram via tech fall. In the consolation bracket, Dietz met Tatiana Bermudez of Tiffin, winning via fall at 2:08, before losing on a 6-0 decision to Madison Small in the 3rd place match. Her 4th place finish punches Dietz a ticket to nationals.
 
Cassidee Easey opened her day at 191 against Trinity Berry of Tiffin. Easey was defeated via tech fall, and sent to the consolation bracket, where she pinned Xsaria Puente in 0:46. She continued to advance, defeating D'Youville's Riley Wentlent to take 3rd place in the weight class. The 3rd place finish means that Easey will have another shot to take the mat at nationals.
 
Alma scored 64.0 team points, and looks forward to their first appearance at nationals in the coming weeks.
