Box Score 2 Olivet, MI – Alma College Softball finished up their regular season on the road at Olivet on Saturday. Alma trounced the Comets with finals of 16-1, and 16-2.
Alma 16, Olivet 1 (5 Innings)
Alma ran up 4 runs to open the game in the 1st. With the bases loaded, Alma capitalized on a pair of wild pitches to bring home 2 runs and open the scoring. Danielle Dumoulin then hit a sac fly to center field to score Emma Fraser making it 3-0. A double steal later in the inning saw Avery Vos come home as well, making it 4-0.
Dumoulin struck again with an RBI double in the 2nd inning to tally the run number 5.
The 4th inning saw Aynslee Koutz single and take advantage of a Comet error to move all the way to third. That same error allowed Taylor Griffith to score, bringing the score to 6-0. Emma Fraser then hit an RBI single to score Koutz, 7-0. They say lightning never strikes twice, but Dumoulin struck a third time in the game, clobbering a homer to left field to plate 2 more runs at 9-0. Olivet responded with a solo shot in the bottom of the 4th, their only run of the game.
The 5th was more scoring for the Scots. A throwing error let Jessica Eva score on a steal attempt to make it 10-1. Fraser hit an RBI double to left field to score another. Dumoulin still wasn't done, as a sac fly to center field was her FOURTH scoring play of the game to make it 12-1. A Hannah Solomon RBI triple, a Jaycie LaValley RBI single, and a Griffith RBI double accounted for the final 4 runs of the game. The final was 16-1.
Dumoulin (2-2, 5 RBI) Fraser ((2-3, 2 RBI) and Griffith (3-3, 2 RBI) accounted for the lion's share of the offense.
Daniella Little (W, 6-4) pitched all 5.0 innings in the win. She allowed 3 hits, and struck out 5 while walking none.
Alma 16, Olivet 2
Game two saw the host Comets hit the scoreboard first, with an RBI single doing the damage to make it 1-0. Alma responded with a huge opening inning. Fraser hit an RBI triple to tie the game up, and Dumoulin followed up with a single to score Fraser, which gave Alma the lead that they wouldn't give back. That lead was padded greatly by a Sophia Somerset 3 run shot to left-center making it 5-1.
The Scots added to their lead in the 2nd. Fraser hit her second RBI single of the game to make it 6-1, and Dumoulin dropped a single into left field soon after to move the score to 7-1. The long ball was the next to do damage for Alma, with Avery Vos sending the ball over the fence in left-center to score 2 more runs.
The 3rd was more of the same, with Koutz smacking an RBI double to center field, and Fraser crushing an RBI triple to right-center. That made it 11-1. Olivet scored their final run on an RBI groundout in the 4th.
Jenna Holzinger homered to straightaway center to score another pair of runs. Griffith grounded out to first and Halverson was safe at home to score another run, and a Koutz RBI single followed by an Emily Dimock RBI double finally ended the onslaught at 16-1.
Fraser (3-3, 3 RBI) Somerset (1-2, HR, 3 RBI) and Dumoulin (2-3, 2 RBI) scored a majority of the runs for the Scots.
Mikaylyn Kenney (W, 8-5) got the start, pitching 4.0 innings, allowing 4 hits and striking out 4 while walking 2. Megan Krueger got an inning in relief. She allowed 2 hits, but no runs.
Alma finishes MIAA Play at 12-4, and qualifies for the MIAA Tournament at the #3 Seed. Alma will see #2 Calvin (13-3 MIAA) in the opening round, which will be hosted by #1 Trine (15-1 MIAA) who will face #4 Adrian (10-6 MIAA)
