Angola, IN – Alma College Softball was in action on Thursday afternoon, taking on Hope College in the elimination bracket semifinal of the MIAA Softball Tournament, presented by Collegiate Credit Union. The Scots were defeated 10-2 in six innings.
It took the Flying Dutch three innings to get on the board, but the opposition did score first on an RBI single to take the lead. Hope doubled the lead in the inning on another single to make it 2-0. Alma answered immediately in the top of the 4
th, when
Haylie Alsip singled through the left side, scoring
Julia Nowicki and
Camille Lozmack. With the game tied, Hope struck a decisive blow just moments later. The Flying Dutch plated six runs in the 4
th to lead 8-2. After a scoreless 5
th inning, Hope scored two more runs in the 6
th, bringing the game to an early close.
Alsip and
Mckenna Salley each had two hits in the loss, and the Scots got base knocks out of three others.
Morgan Westall (14-6) got the start, pitching 3.1 innings and allowing eight runs (six earned) on eight hits with one strikeout.
Mikaylyn Kenney pitched 1.2 innings in relief, allowing two runs (one earned) on three hits and two walks with one strikeout.
Alma finishes at 25-13, and will await the release of the NCAA tournament selections to see if the Scots will receive an at-large bid.
