Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

Angola, IN – Alma College Softball headed down to Trine to take part in the opening rounds of the MIAA Tournament. Alma dropped a nailbiter to Calvin 5-4, before falling to Adrian 5-0.

Calvin 5, Alma 4 (10 Innings)

Alma scored to open the game in the 2nd inning. A bunt by Jessica Eva saw Avery Vos fly home and score on the squeeze, with Eva reaching on a throwing error. The Scots added a pair of runs in the 3rd. Emma Fraser hit a ball down the left field line, and a diving effort by a Calvin fielder results in the ball rolling all the way to the fence. Julia Duncan scored on the play, with Fraser legging out a triple. Fraser scored soon after thanks to a Reneigh Sandmann RBI single through the right side, making it 3-0.

Calvin fought back and tied the game up at 3-3 in the 5th. The score remained knotted at 3-3 into the 9thinning. Emma Fraser laid down a surprise bunt, catching the Calvin infield off guard. Taylor Griffth scored on the play to give Alma a 4-3 lead. Despite the best efforts of the Scots, who threw everything they had at Calvin, the Knights were able to tie the game in the 9th, and win it in the 10th.

Emma Fraser (3-5, 2 RBI) and Sandmann (1-5, RBI) accounted for the scoring plays for Alma.

Morgan Westall (L, 8-6) pitched 8.1 innings, allowing 11 hits, striking out 4 while walking 2.

Adrian 5, Alma 0

The Scots had about 30 minutes before they took to the field again against Adrian. The Bulldogs grabbed an early advantage, going up 4-0 and Alma struggled to find offensive traction against the Adrian pitching. Despite the best effort of the Scots, they ran out of gas and Adrian was able to take advantage, tacking on one more run, and shutting down any Alma offensive efforts before they could score.

Taylor Griffith and Jessica Eva registered the two hits for Alma.

Daniella Little (L, 6-5) pitched all 6.0 innings in the loss. She allowed 8 hits and struck out 2 while walking 1.

The Scots end a successful season at 23-18, and look to build on this campaign in 2024.
