Softball Celebrates Seniors With Crucial MIAA Sweep of Adrian

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

Alma, MI – Alma College Softball continued MIAA play against Adrian at Scots Park on Saturday. The Scots celebrated Senior Day, as well as Cancer Awareness Day. Alma was victorious in game one 7-1, and took game two 6-2.

Alma 7, Adrian 1

Alma scored right away in the bottom of the first. The double steal worked to perfection for the Scots, Danielle Dumoulin took off for second, and Aynslee Koutz was able to scamper home from third and score on the throw by Adrian.

The home 9 picked up the scoring in the 3rd. The Scots got help from a Bulldog fielding error, which allowed Taylor Griffith to round third and score on the play. Immediately after, Dumoulin crushed a double just shy of the right field fence. The both runners tagged, and Koutz was able to score. A fielders choice on the next play allowed another run to score, making it 4-0 Alma. If that wasn't enough, Amelia Price hit an RBI single to score one more run, and make it 5-0.

Alma left things there, and continued the scoring in the next inning. Emma Fraser hit an RBI single to left field to score one more run, making it 6-0. Alma added one more run in the 5th when Sophia Morais hit into a fielder choice. The throw home went array, allowing Hannah Solomon to score with ease. With the score at 7-0, Adrian scored once to make it 7-1.

Griffith (2-4) Fraser (1-4, 2 RBI) and Dumoulin (2-3, RBI) led the efforts at the plate for Alma.

Morgan Westall (W, 8-5) pitched all 7.0 innings for Alma. She allowed 6 hits, and struck out 2 while walking 1 in the complete game win.

Alma 6, Adrian 2

Alma once again scored in the 1st to start game two. Emma Fraser reached on an error by the Bulldog second baseman, which saw Taylor Griffith score from third. Morgan Brandau followed up with a double to the gap in right center. This saw Aynslee Koutz score, and Emma Fraser made it under the tag at home to tally another run for Alma to make it 3-0.

Alma added to it's total in the 3rd. Hannah Solomon was on 1st to pinch run, and Avery Vos hit a hot shot into left field that got past the Adrian left fielder. Solomon came all the way around to score, bringing the score to 4-0.

In the top of the 5th Alma struck again. Brandau hit a single into left field, and it took all the effort that Kylie Halverson had to hustle home and manage to get a foot to the plate as she slid, beating the tag. 5-0 Alma. Dumoulin then crushed a home run to left center to extend the lead to 6-0 in the 7th. Adrian responded with an RBI triple to get on the board in the bottom half of the inning at 6-1, and would add to that total with a sac fly to make it 6-2. Daniella Little would let it go no further, shutting things down for the W.

Brandau (2-3, 3 RBI) Dumoulin (2-4, HR, RBI) and Vos (1-3, RBI) were responsible for the lion's share of the scoring.

Daniella Little (W, 4-4) went the full 7.0 innings, allowing 7 hits, and striking out 3 while walking 1 in the complete game victory.

Alma will be back in action on Wednesday May 3, with their home finale against Albion.
