Box Score 2 Chicago, IL – Alma College Softball hit the road on Saturday to play a pair of games against U Chicago and North Park. Alma lost a pair of tight games, both by a single run.
University of Chicago 4, Alma 3
The Scots were the first to score in their opening game. A leadoff triple from Taylor Griffith in the top of the 1stinning helped Alma to score when Danielle Dumoulin laid down a sac bunt and Griffith flew home from third base. The Maroons responded in the 2nd inning to tie the game at 1-1.
Alma struck again in the 3rd inning. Dumoulin found herself on base, and Morgan Brandau hit a single to right center that allowed her to score. A 2-run single from Chicago gave them the lead at 3-2 in the 3rd. They would pad that lead in the 4th to make it 4-2. Alma scored on a wild pitch in the 6th innings to make it 4-3, but was unable to tie it up in the 7th.
The Scots managed 6 hits in the loss. Taylor Griffith (2-4) and Danielle Dumoulin (2-3, RBI) led the offense for the Scots. Daniella Little got the start, pitching 4.2 innings, allowing 6 hits, and picking up the loss, she drops to 3-3 on the season. Mikaylyn Kenney came in and pitched 1.1 in relief, striking out 1 hitter and walking 1 as well.
North Park 5, Alma 4
Opposite of game one, North Park scored to open the game with an RBI single to score the opening run of the game. Jenna Holzinger answered in the top of the 2nd with an RBI double to tie the game. In the top of the 3rd, RBI singles from Morgan Brandau and Taylor Griffith gave Alma a 3-1 lead.
North Park responded in the 3rd and 4th innings. The Vikings took the lead on 3 scoring plays that brought the totals to 5-3. Reneigh Sandmann scored with an RBI single in the 5th, but Alma couldn't get the game tied, falling 5-4.
Morgan Brandau (2-3, RBI) and Reneigh Sandmann (2-2, RBI) led the offensive output for the Scots.
Morgan Westall started game two for Alma. She went the full 6.0 innings, allowing 10 hits and striking out 6. The loss moves her to 4-3 on the season.
Alma has a few days off, before they open MIAA play at Kalamazoo on Wednesday.
