Box Score 2 Alma, MI – Alma College Softball hosted Anderson University on Sunday in their 2nd home twinbill in 3 days at Scots Park. Alma ended both games via 8 run mercy rule, with finals of 10-2 (6 Innings) and 9-0 (5 Innings).
Alma 10, Anderson 2 (6 Innings)
Alma jumped out to a quick lead in the first. Aynslee Koutz hit a double to left center field, which scored Taylor Griffith unearned to give Alma a lead. Emma Fraser hit a single soon after that was enough to score Koutz and double the lead. Alma would tack on two more runs courtesy of Morgan Brandau, and an Anderson throwing error to make it 4-0.
The middle innings saw the Scots add a pair of runs with an Avery Vos sac fly in the third inning, and a Taylor Griffith sac bunt.
The 6th inning saw the end of the game come early. A throwing error from Anderson's infield on a Jessica Eva single allowed Darcy Daenzer to scamper around the bases and score, before Griffith tacked on one more run on a single down the left field line. Koutz stepped up to end the game with a 2-run walk off homer in the 6th.
Griffith led the offense with a 2-3 game collecting a pair of RBI. Koutz also went 2-4, with the game ending 2-run shot contributing to her 3 RBI in the contest. Daniella Little pitched 6 innings to get the win and move to 3-1 on the season. She allowed 6 hits, and struck out 2 while walking 1.
Alma 9, Anderson 0 (5 Innings)
Alma scored the first run of the ball game again in game two. Morgan Brandau hit a single to right center, and scored Aynslee Koutz. The Scots loaded up the bases in the 2nd inning, and capitalized on it quickly. It allowed Koutz and Emma Fraser to single home a pair of runs and double the lead. After two innings it was 4-0.
The 3rd inning went by with no scoring, but the 4th saw Alma break it wide open. A wild pitch scored Jessica Eva from third base. A bases loaded Morgan Brandau walk forced a run home as well, and with the bases still loaded, Avery Vos hit into a fielders choice, and an errant throw from Anderson let a pair of Scots make it home. Julia Duncan's first career hit at Scots Park, a deep double to left center, pushed across two more runs and brought the score to 9-0, where it sat until it was made final.
Brandau, Vos, and Duncan all scored 2 RBI in the win, and Koutz was the lone Scot to rack up multiple hits in the W, going 2-2 with a walk and an RBI. Morgan Westall pitched all 5 innings in the contest. She racked up 5 strikeouts while allowing just 4 hits. The shutout win takes her to 3-1 on the season.
Alma has a few days off before they head to Ohio Northern for a pair of games on Wednesday.
