Angola, Ind.- The Alma College softball team faced Trine University on Thursday, May 5 for their first game of the day followed by a second game against Hope College to start the 2022 MIAA softball tournament. The Scots fell to both teams to finish their season, 1-0 and 8-3. Alma finished 12-4 in conference play and 25-13 overall. 

The Thunder found their only run of the game in the bottom of the first inning off a single to right field to bring one run in. 

The remainder of the game was unanswered by either team for a final score of 1-0 in Trine's favor.

Alma had four hits against the Thunder with two from Hannah Fleming and one each from Emma Fraser (Alpena, Mich.) and Taylor Griffith (Grand Rapids, Mich.). Pitcher Haley Ullrich (Elk River, Minn.) only allowed three hits and one run and posted six strikeouts.

Alma put two runs on the board starting with a single from Ullrich to right field in the bottom of the first inning against the Flying Dutch. Hannah Falejczyk (Manhattan, Ill.) then homered to left field to bring Ullrich home with her, 2-0. 

Hope tied the game in the bottom of the second inning off a single to left field to bring two runs in, 2-2.

The Flying Dutch continued scoring in the top of the third with a double down the right field line for one run to be brought in, 3-2. 

The fourth and fifth innings were untouched by either team. Hope homered in the top of the six to bring three runs in, 6-2.

Griffith was walked to start the bottom of the sixth inning followed by a double from Hannah Fleming (Rogers City, Mich.) to right center to advance Griffith to third base. On a wild pitch, Fleming grabbed third to bring Griffith home, 6-3. 

Hope hit another homerun in the top of the seventh and added a single to bring two runs in for a final score of, 8-3. 

Falejczyk led the Scots with two hits, one run, and brought two runs in. Hadyn Terwilliger (Mt. Pleasant, Mich.) also added two hits to Alma's total of seven hits. Pitcher Daniella Little (Wheaton, Ill.) allowed four hits, five runs, and tallied three strikeouts. Ullrich allowed seven hits, three runs, and added one strikeout.
