ALMA, Mich. – The Alma College softball team kicked off conference-play against Olivet College on Sunday, April 3. The Scots grabbed two wins from the Comets, 5-0 and 23-0, to improve 15-7 overall.

Alma started off hot in the bottom of the first inning of game one with a home run from Emma Fraser (Alpena, MI) to put Alma on the board at 1-0. 

In the bottom of the second Hannah Fleming (Rogers City, MI) reached first off a pitching error. Fleming stole second for Aynslee Koutz (St. Louis, MI) to double to third base allowing Fleming to reach third. Jessica Eva (Morrice, MI )was walked to load the bases. Haley Ullrich (Elk River, MN) doubled to centerfield to bring two runs in, 3-0. Taylor Griffith (Grand Rapids, MI) reached first off an error by second base to bring Ullrich and Eva to home plate, 5-0.

The third through seventh innings remained scoreless for a final score of 5-0 in the Scots favor. 

Hannah Falejczyk (Manhattanville, IL) and Koutz led with two hits each and Ullrich pitched 14 strikeouts with only three hits allowed. 

Alma continued the offensive day with a second win over Olivet starting with Falejczyk being hit by a pitch to advance Fraser to second, Griffith to third, and Ullrich home. Fleming then grounded out to shortstop to advance Falejczyk to second, Frazer to third, and for Griffith to score. Hadyn Terwilliger (Mt. Pleasant, MI) singled to shortstop and advanced to second on the throw to bring Falejczyk and Fraser home. Koutz hit a single to shortstop to close out the first inning with a run from Terwilliger, 5-0.

In the second inning Chloe Deckrow (Grandville, MI) singled to centerfield and brought Griffith home, 6-0.

The third inning brought seven more runs to the board for Alma off seven hits. Koutz doubled down the third base line to send Terwilliger to third. Eva then singled to centerfield and brought two runs in. Griffith followed with a single to centerfield to add two more runs. Deckrow singled to centerfield and brought Griffith home. Fleming matched Deckrow with another single and one more run. Ella Little (Wheaton, IL) grounded out to shortstop to bring Deckrow home for a score of 13-0.

The fourth inning brought the most runs in with 10 for Alma off eight hits. Ullrich started it off with a single and Frazer doubled to bring in one run for the Scots. Dani Domoulin (Goodrich, MI) then hit a single to bring two more runs in. Erin Ezell (Fenton, MI) hit a homer to bring two Scots home. Jenna Holzinger (Sanford, MI) doubled and brought one run in and Griffith hit a single to bring two more runs in. Amelia Price (Milford, MI) homored and put two more on the board, 23-0.

The fifth inning was scoreless and ended the game at, 23-0 for the Scots.  

Griffith led the game with five runs, three hits, and brought four runs in. Fraser added three runs and three hits. Little pitched four innings and posted six strikeouts while Megan Krueger (Grosse Ile, MI) added two. 

Next, Alma heads to Calvin University on Tuesday, April 5 for their next competition.
