Alma improves to 8-2 in conference play

ALMA, Mich. –  The Alma College softball team continued play at home on Saturday, April 16 against Kalamazoo College to celebrate their senior class and take two wins from the Hornets, 3-2 and 17-1.

The first three innings remained unanswered until the bottom of the fourth with a double to left field from Hadyn Terwilliger (Mount Pleasant, MI) to bring Hannah Fleming (Rogers City, MI) in for the first run of the game, 1-0.

Taylor Griffith (Grand Rapids, MI) singled to left field for Jessica Eva (Morrice, MI) and Terwilliger to reach home plate, 3-0.

Kalamazoo found themselves on the board in the top of the sixth inning with a single to right field to bring two runs in for a final score of, 3-2. 

Fleming led the Scots with two hits and Griffith added one hit with two RBI's. Ullrich allowed two hits, two runs, and added 13 strikeouts.

Emma Fraser (Alpena, MI) started the second game off with a double to bring Ullrich in for the run. Chloe Deckrow (Grandville, MI) followed with a double advancing Fraser to home plate for a, 2-1, lead in the first inning.

Griffith doubled to right field to bring Eva and Aynslee Koutz (St. Louis, MI) home, 4-0. Fraser added a single for Griffith to find home and Hannah Falejczyk (Manhattan, IL) doubled to bring in a run from Fraser for a score of 6-0 in the top of the second. 

The Hornets homered in the top of the third for their only run of the game to put the score at 6-1. 

The fourth inning added two more runs for Alma with a double from Ullrich for Eva to score and an RBI off a fielder's choice to bring Ullrich home, 8-1. 

Alma took advantage of their offensive edge in the fifth and final inning with nine runs and seven hits. Griffith and Terwilliger each had two RBI's while Koutz, Fraser, Daniella Little (Wheaton, IL) and Eva each added one RBI for a final score of 17-1. 

Fraser ended the second game with a 1.000 hitting percentage with four at-bats and added three RBI's. Eva went 3-3 in hitting and posted three runs. Little pitched five strikeouts, allowed four hits and one run.

Alma will be back on the road Friday, April 22 to play Adrian College for their next contest.
