Box Score 1 ALMA, Mich. – The Alma College softball team played a doubleheader at home on Tuesday, April 12 against Hope College. The Scots split with the Flying Dutch, 6-0 and 8-7, to improve to 4-2 in conference play.
The first game was kicked off by Haley Ullrich (Elk River, MN) with a homer at the bottom of the first for a 1-0 lead.
Scoring picked back up in the third inning with three runs from the Scots off a single to center field from Hannah Falejczyk (Manhattan, IL) to bring Emma Fraser (Alpena, MI) and Taylor Griffith (Grand Rapids, MI) home. Hannah Fleming (Rogers City, MI) then doubled to right field to take Lakin Ex (Sterling, MI) to home plate, 4-0.
The fifth inning started with a single from Fraser to right field. Amelia Thorne (Grand Ledge, MI) pinch ran for Fraser and immediately made it home off a fielder's choice, 5-0.
Alma secured the win in the bottom of the sixth with a single from Ullrich who advanced to second on the throw to bring Jessica Eva (Morrice, MI)in for the run. The Scots were untouched with a final score of 6-0.
Fraser went 3-3 at bat and added one run. Falejczyk went 2-3 and posted two RBI's. Ullrich only allowed two hits and added seven strikeouts.
Alma started off the second game hot with another homerun form Ullrich. Chloe Deckrow (Grandville, MI) followed with a double to center field to bring Reneigh Sandmann (Baroda, MI) in for the run. Hannah Fleming then doubled down the third base line to bring Deckrow home, 3-0.
Deckrow continued her hitting streak in the top of the third inning with a single to center field allowing Griffith home, 4-0.
Hadyn Terwilliger (Mount Pleasant, MI) joined Ullirch in homerun hitting to add one more run to the board, 5-0.
Hope found their footing in the bottom of the sixth off a double to right field to grab two runs of their own, 5-2.
The Scots added a run in the top of the seventh inning off another single from Deckrow for Fraser to advance to second allowing Ullirch the run, 6-2.
The Flying Dutch continued their scoring with bases loaded off a double to bring three runs in and an error from second base for an additional run to tie the game, 6-6.
The game went to extra innings for Fleming to reach first off an error by second base to put Jaycie LaValley (Macomb, MI) in the scoring position, 7-6. Hope kept the game tied off a fly ball to bring a runner in, 7-7, at the bottom of the 10th inning.
Hope found the lead to end the game in the 11th inning off a single for a final score of 8-7.
Deckrow led the Scots with three hits for four at-bats and posted three RBI's in the second game. Terwilliger added three hits and one RBI. Pitcher Daniella Little (Wheaton, IL) allowed two runs and added three strikeouts.
Next, Alma continues at home on Friday, April 15 against Saint Mary's College.
