Box Score 2 RALEIGH, N.C. – The Alma College softball team competed against the No. 14-Piedmont University Lions on Friday, Feb. 25. The Scots fell by a final score of 11-6.
Alma fell behind early as the Lions recorded one hit and score two runs in the top of the first inning. Alma would respond in the bottom of the first, starting with Emma Fraser connecting on a pitch and sending it to center field, allowing her to reach second. Hadyn Terwilliger singled, allowing Fraser to score to cut into the lead.
Piedmont scored four runs in the top of the second to take a 6-1 lead. Again, the Scots would not back down. With the bases loaded, Haley Ullrich singled to center field and sent Amelia Price home, adding another run for Alma. But the Lions bounced right back, scoring another two runs in the top of the third and increasing their lead to 8-2.
In the bottom of the third, Alma found themselves with the bases loaded again and would look to capitalize. Price drew a walk and Fraser crossed home plate for the Scots. Two batters later, Jessica Eva drew a walk, sending Terwilliger across home for another run. Ullrich was walked and Chloe Deckrow scored another run for the Scots, making the score 8-5.
Piedmont scored three additional runs into for the rest of the game. Alma scored an additional run in the bottom of the seventh, but it was not enough.
