Scots fall to Concordia University Ann Arbor

Box Score

Alma, Mich.- The 2021 season opener for the Scots went the way of Concordia University Ann Arbor. The Cardinals were on top for most of the first half and opened the scoring in the 26th minute with a strike from Bryce Schaner. Schaner didn't have to wait long for his second as he was able to turn an Alexander Valencia pass into an assist in the 30th minute. The Cardinals made it 3-0 in the 35th minute as Brody Smith found the goal. The first half ended with The Cardinals up three and out shooting the Scots 10-7.

The Scots worked to find a foothold in the game but were unable to find the back of the net. The second half was full of good attacking play and chances. Jacari Jackson scored the only goal of the half, adding a fourth for the Cardinals in the 80th minute.

Valencia and Schraner led the Cardinal's attack. Schraner had 4 shots (3 on goal) and Valencia had 5 shots (2 on goal.)

The Scots were led by First Year Ethan Swartzentruber who had 3 shots (1 on goal). Chris Henry was in goal for the Scots and posted 4 saves on 20 shots faced (10 on goal).

Coach Greer shared the following thoughts on today's match:

"Credit to CUAA. They made the most of the errors we made and then added two really nice goals from range on top of that. We were able to do some really good things throughout the game but lacked that final piece today. Overall, we weren't sharp enough and that poor execution in key moments really cost us. I know the team is disappointed with that outcome and that disappointment will drive us forward as we put in the work to prepare for the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater on Saturday."
