Angola, Ind.- The Alma College softball team beat Saint Mary's College, 3-1, in their first game of the MIAA tournament on Thursday at Parkview Fields.
Haley Ullrich, who only allowed three hits over seven innings, threw nine strikeouts strikes today. The Belles had one hit in the top of the first and made the game 1-0 from a single to left field.
The Scots were able to answer back in the bottom of the second with a double from Chloe Deckrow to left center with her first RBI of the game. Alma took the lead in the fourth inning when Brooke Wells had a single up the middle that scored Hannah Fleming to make it 2-1 Scots.
Alma scored another in the bottom of the fourth due to an error made by the Belles' shortstop. Deckrow came across home plate and made the game 3-1. Ullrich and the Alma defense kept Saint Mary's from scoring the rest of the way to advance to the winner's bracket of the conference tournament.
Emma Fraser also had a double in the game to keep the Scots fired up at the plate and Hannah Falejczyk had a single up the middle. Deckrow led the team with two hits.
Scots will now play the number one seed and host Trine University on Friday at 1 p.m.
