Holland, Mich.- The Alma College softball team fell to the Hope College Flying Dutch, but took a win against Trine University on Friday April 9th at Wolters Stadium Fields. All of the games did not count for the MIAA standings.
The Flying Dutch started off the game in the bottom of the first with the first run. The Alma College Scots answered back with the first of many home runs today with Emma Fraser. Fraser came out swinging in the top of the third and made the score 2-1, with her first homerun of the day.
Ending in the bottom of the fifth, the Dutch took the lead once more and made the score 5-2. Scots had one more shot at tying up the game but fell short in the bottom of the 6th. Hannah Falejczyk dropped a single into left field and scored Aynslee Koutz and Emma Fraser, bringing the final score 5-4.
In the second game today of the triple header, the Scots beat the Thunder. Trine came out hot in the top of the first and made the score 5-0, but that would be their last run for the day.
The bottom of the third started off strong with a double from Hannah Fleming and she got the Scots fired up at the plate. Then Right Fielder Taylor Griffith hit her first career homerun to bring the score to 5-2. Hannah Solomon had a stolen base for the Scots as well.
Hadyn Terwilliger followed in her teammates footsteps and sent the ball over the fence, bringing in two more runs for the Scots while making it a one run game. After that Emma Fraser had her second home run of the day and tied up the game 5-5.
In the bottom of the sixth inning, the Scots took their first lead of the game with a solo blast towards center field from Hannah Falejczyk. The Scots were able to shut down the Thunder in the top of the seventh to earn the win.
Daniella Little pitched the final 5.1 innings for the Scots, giving up only one run. She earned the win while striking out two batters.
The Scots are on the road against St. Mary's and Kalamazoo College in Indiana for another triple header on Saturday.
