HOLLAND, Mich. - The Alma College men's soccer team loss, 3-1, to the Hope College Flying Dutchmen in the semifinals of the MIAA postseason tournament Thursday. The Scots' season ends while the Flying Dutchmen will head to the conference championship game on Saturday. 

Sophomore Joe Rawlin scored the lone goal for Alma with freshman Benjamin Kirouac providing the assist. Sophomore Chris Henry made six saves in net for the Scots.

Hope scored on a penalty shot in the opening minutes to put Alma in an early hole. Both teams played some stellar defense for the rest of the first half as the score remained 1-0 after 45 minutes of play. 

The second half started similar to how the first half went, an early goal from the Flying Dutchmen with this one making it a 2-0 game. The score remained that way for the next 25 minutes until the Scots forced a turnover in Hope's defensive zone. Some quick passing led to Kirouac finding Rawlin right in front of the net who buried the first goal of his collegiate career. The Alma score made it 2-1 in favor of Hope with just over 14 minutes remaining. 

The Flying Dutchmen added an insurance goal a few minutes later to make it 3-1. Alma kept fighting till the clock hit zero. 

Rawlin led the team with three shots while Connor McCain had one. 

The Scots finish their second season under Head Coach John Greer with their first postseason victory since 2016. Alma will return to play for the fall 2021 season.
