Box Score KALAMAZOO, Mich. - The Alma College men's soccer team defeated the Kalamazoo College Hornets on Tuesday in the MIAA Tournament Quarterfinals. The seven-seeded Scots and the two-seeded Hornets were tied 4-4 after 110 minutes of play and went to penalty kicks to decide the game. Alma won the shootout by a score of 4-2 to advance to the tournament semifinals.
Jack Lockerbie scored two goals, Alma's opening goal and the final goal in regulation that tied the game with less than two minutes to go. Keegan Hobson and Sandro Suffredini also scored the other Alma goals in the game.
Kalamazoo led after the first half by a score of 2-1 when the Scots responded with back-to-back goals to make it 3-2 Alma. The Hornets tied it with just over 10 minutes to go and then took the lead with less than three minutes left in regulation.
With their backs against the wall, the Scots scored the equalizer off the foot of Lockerbie to send the game into overtime. After two periods of overtime, the game went to a shootout where Alma was able to win it with goals from Hobson, Joe Rawlin, Mateo Giulianelli, and Brandon McDaniel. McDaniel, the senior, scored the game-clinching goal.
Chris Henry made six saves in net as well as two in the shootout.
The Scots will head to Hope College on Thursday, April 22nd for the tournament semifinals.
