ALMA, Mich. – The Alma College men's soccer took on the Olivet College Comets Thursday evening in its home opener for the 2021 spring season. The Scots came up just short, falling by a score of 3-2.

Chase Karagitz scored both of Alma's goals with Joe Rawlin earning the assist on each of them. The Scots drop to 0-2 on the season and 0-1 in MIAA play.

Olivet scored the opening goal, however Alma responded with the equalizer and its first goal of the season with Rawlin passing one across the field where Karagitz stepped in a sent it past the Comets keeper to tie things up at 1-all. The Comets would score again a few minutes later and take a 2-1 lead heading into halftime. 

Just over a minute into the second half, Rawlin sent a cross to the front of the net where Karagitz got his head on the ball and sent it towards the left post. The ball then ricocheted off an Olivet defender and into the net to make it 2-2 game.

Olivet took back the lead 10 minutes later. The Scots had some chances late as they poured the pressure on the Comets but they could not find the back of the net and took the loss in a hard-fought game.

Jose Vicario made three saves in net. Jack Lockerbie had two shots on goal for the Scots.

Alma will head to Kalamazoo College on Tuesday, March 30th for a conference tilt with the Hornets. The Scots will return home on Friday, April 2nd when Albion College comes to town.
