Alma Begins Conference Play with Sweep

ALMA, Mich. - The Alma College softball team swept Olivet College in their first conference doubleheader. The Scots are now 9-3, 2-0 MIAA and Comets move down to 0-2, 0-2 MIAA as they just begin their season.

In the top of the first inning, Alma started off the game by scoring three runs. Taylor Griffith singled to shortstop, advancing Aynslee Koutz to second, Haley Ullirch to third and Hannah Cambe came in for a run. The second inning earned Alma another four runs with a Hadyn Terwilliger three-run home run. Aynslee Koutz also brought home Hannah Falejczyk on a single. The Scots continued to dominate the entire game with only one allowed run.

Hannah Solomon, Emma Fraser, Cambe, Haley Ullrich, Terwilliger, and Koutz all scored runs for the Scots tonight.

Terwilliger led the Scots in RBIs (3). Koutz, Taylor Griffith and Chloe Deckrow each earned two and Ullrich earned one.

On the mound, Ullrich pitched five innings, allowed one run and struck out 11 batters.

In the second game, Olivet was leading, scoring four times in the top of the second inning.

Alma fought to catch up, scoring in the bottom of the second with Deckrow doubling to right center and Koutz coming in for a run. In the third inning, Koutz doubled to right center and brought in Terwilliger for a run. The Scots were still down until the fourth inning when they went on a scoring run. They scored five runs in the fourth inning to take the lead from Olivet. Mount Pleasant native Terwilliger homered to center field for a two-run bomb.

Koutz, Terwilliger, Jessica Eva, Hannah Fleming, Cambe, Fraser, and Laiken Ex each scored runs for the Scots.

Terwilliger led the Scots again in RBIs (3). Koutz, Hannah Solomon, Griffith, Deckrow, Fleming and Brooke Wells each earned one as well.

On the mound Daniella Little pitched 5.1 shutout innings and struck out nine batters to earn the win.

Up next, the Scots will play against Calvin University and Saint Mary's College at Scots Park, Friday March 26th, first game at 12:00pm.
