ANDERSON, IND. The Alma College Softball Team (5-3) dominated in a doubleheader against Anderson University (0-2). They took the first game in five innings, 8-0, the game ended due to mercy rule. They won the second game, 6 – 4.
Haley Ullrich pitched her second shutout of the weekend, in five innings, only allowing 2 hits, 0 runs, having 0 errors and 4 strike-outs.
Hannah Falejczyk and Chloe Deckrow led the Scots in RBIs (2). In the 1st inning, Falejczyk doubled to left field and brought in Haydn Terwilliger for a run. The Manhattan native also hit a homer to left field in the 4th inning, earning the only homer of the game. Deckrow singled up the middle, which left the home plate open for Aynslee Koutz and Hannah Fleming to score in the 3rd inning. Emma Fraser, Brooke Wells and Terwilliger all earned one RBI.
3 players for Alma stole bases, Koutz, Morgan Dubay and Taylor Griffith.
Koutz led the Scots with 2 runs scored. The other players to score a run were Fraser, Terwilliger, Griffith, Ullrich, Fleming, and Falejczyk.
In the second game, Alma got an early lead with Terwilliger getting caught stealing at second and giving Fraser a chance to score. In the 2nd inning Deckrow singled to the shortstop, bringing in Koutz for a fun.
They allowed the Ravens to catch up and even take the lead in the 3rd inning. They gained control back with Hannah Solomon tripling to left field, bringing in Jessica Eva in for a run, in the 6th inning. Then Solomon scored a run herself, allowing Alma to take the lead once more. They didn't allow Anderson to overtake them again.
Solomon led the Scots with two RBIs and Deckrow had one.
Eva, Solomon, Koutz, Griffith, Cambe and Fraser each scored one run.
There were 3 pitchers for the Scots, Daniella Little, Emma Fraser and Haley Ullrich. Little started and pitched 5 innings, she struck out 2 batters. Haley Ullirch played 1.1 innings and held the lead for Alma by allowing no runs and striking out 1 batter. Fraser pitcher for .2 innings.
Up next, The Scots will play their home opener with the Defiance College yellow jackets. The match-up will begin at 1:00pm with another game following soon after, Saturday March 20th.
